FAQ

Frequently asked questions

If you don't see your question, email hello@surbias.com — we usually respond within a day.

What is Surbias?
Surbias is a community where people share real failure stories — without needing a happy ending. The name is short for "Survivorship Bias Destroyer." It exists to remind people that failing is normal and the success stories we read are a tiny minority.
Is Surbias free?
Yes — 100% free. No ads, no paywall, no tracking. The platform is funded by voluntary tips on Ko-fi. If it helps you, you can support it at /support.
Do I have to use my real name?
No. Posts are anonymous by default. You can choose to attach your name when you post if you want, but anonymous is the default and most stories are anonymous.
Why are reactions called "me too" and "hug" instead of "like"?
Likes don't fit. When someone shares a failure, you don't "like" it — you relate, you empathize, you respect. The five reactions (me too, hug, strength, respect, solidarity) are designed to mirror what humans actually feel when they read a vulnerable story.
Can I delete my story later?
Yes. Authors can delete their own posts at any time. Account deletion is also available in settings (GDPR-compliant).
What languages does Surbias support?
English, Spanish, German, French, and Portuguese. The interface and the stories are localized — when you switch language, you see stories in that language.
How is moderation handled?
A combination of automated rules (blocked words, link limits, rate limiting) and a community flag system. If 5 people flag a story, it's hidden pending admin review. We're strict about hate speech and personal attacks; we're permissive about messy, painful, real stories.
Will my story be used to train AI models?
We don't sell or license stories to AI training providers. We do publish public stories with appropriate metadata so search engines and assistants can surface them — but commercial training datasets are explicitly out of scope.
Can companies use Surbias for internal post-mortems?
There's an Enterprise concept (private failure-story spaces for teams) but no product yet. If you're interested, email hello@surbias.com.
How do I support Surbias?
Three ways, in order of impact: (1) share a story, yours or someone you know's; (2) tell one friend about it; (3) leave a tip on Ko-fi. The first two help more than the tip.
Why doesn't Surbias have likes / follower counts / a leaderboard?
Engagement metrics are designed to make people perform. Surbias is designed to make people honest. Likes and follower counts would corrupt the incentive — people would post for status instead of catharsis. So we left them out on purpose.
I posted a story and nobody reacted. Why?
Honestly: the platform is small. As of now there are hundreds of users, not millions. Your story still matters — and it stays in the database, indexed by search, available to whoever needs it later.
Can I embed a Surbias story on my blog?
Yes. Every story has an embed code in the share menu. The iframe is responsive and uses minimal styling.
Who built Surbias?
Juan Gori — solo, from Buenos Aires. The full press kit is at /press.
